National Day To Prevent Teen Pregnancy Activities
Region 8, San Diego and Imperial Counties, are holding a two-part celebration of National Teen Pregnancy Prevention Day/Month. Part one involves area programs holding health information fairs in schools on May 9th, 2008. The collaborative group will standardize materials and create promotional posters and flyers to create a cohesive look to the event. Peer educators and staff will put up tables in many schools throughout the region, and provide computers where teens can take the quiz on-site. In addition, information about teen pregnancy, STIs, FamilyPACT services and other programs will be available.
Part two will be a community event held at the World Beat Center in beautiful Balboa Park. The event will feature speakers on teen parent communication, the 3Rs campaign, and Internet safety, as well as performances from local youth bands, teen theater troupes, and other performances throughout the day. Area agencies will have the opportunity to set up booths and hand out information, and a peer educator will serve as Master of Ceremonies, and provide periodic speeches on teen pregnancy prevention and adolescent health.
